ELIJAH, THE PASSOVER PROPHET A pre-Passover (Pesach) programme

Extraordinary tales of the prophet Elijah, whose cup sits on the Passover Seder table. Encounters with Elijah change lives forever; true freedom becomes a real possibility. Perhaps that is the reason why we open the door for Elijah at Pesach!

MULTICULTURAL MIXTURE

Fascinating tales from many diverse traditions. You might hear.. the nutty wisdom stories of Mullah Nasruddin, the Islamic holy man…and… the Afro-Caribbean tales of Anansi, the trickster spider…or even …the Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella that keeps in the strange and slightly scary bits! David has a large selection of stories from different cultures in his repertoire.

Sunday 2nd May, 2pm

LAG B’OMER

Lag B’Omer is a one-day Jewish festival of celebration, in the middle of a difficult period of time, where Jews remember, sadly, the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. Hear stories of illusion, deception, heroism and good deeds, featuring King Solomon (builder of the First Temple), the Rabbis of Roman-occupied Israel and a strange tale involving a sorcerer, a bow and arrow* - and a bath!

*It used to be customary for children to make bows and arrows and engage in archery on Lag Ba'Omer.

Sunday 27 June, 2pm

TALES OF TIME

These stories span many of the world’s time zones. They have been gathered from myths and legends as well as much more recent history. Listen to legends and tales about the Sun and Moon from Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Chinese and Native American traditions, and glimpse into the strange eccentric worlds of Julius Caesar and Pope Gregory (founders of our modern calendars).
